This is Baurhyte Maternity Cottage, where I was born, at 127 Utah street, Los Angeles Ca. The cottage was established in 1908 by Mrs. William Baurhyte, prominent Los Angeles club woman, and closed in 1953. It was a small, one room cottage for indigent women. We were poor, living with my fathers grandparents in Santa Monica, CA., 739 7th street. It is a 19 mile drive from Santa Monica to the cottage, but back then there was no I-10 freeway, it didn't start construction until 1956. So that drive was all surface streets and at about 15 MPH on average... it would have been about an hour drive. Good thing I was born at 2:45 AM, traffic would have been very light. Don't know how they got to the cottage. Hezekiahs car, taxi... who knows, nobody to ask now.
