The Rangley Ave. house was a two story, with two apartments on the top floor, Clyde, Ednamae and Dorothy lived on the ground floor and we lived in one of the apartments and Aunt Betty and Uncle Andy Brakke, lived in the other. First, we lived in the top right, then when Andy and Betty moved, we moved to the left, a bigger apartment. This photo is from 1938. Uncle Matt and Aunt Dorothy are the two in the photo.

A young couple called the Rasmussens then moved in. Clyde then sold it to David Sage, a short, bald, chunky man, in 1947, who chewed on an unlit cigar all day. Never lit that cigar once.

Here is a record of the Rangely house. The record shows the property history from 1947 to the present. A broker friend dug this up from city records. Shows Charles Clyde Ling and Ednamae nee Albert, Hill, Ling, sold the property to David and Rose Sage, on July 24th, 1947. What would prompt them to sell and move to Quartz Hill into a house the size of one of the apartments on Rangely, is a question that may never be answered. We followed shortly thereafter. George was a trained watch maker and found work at Edwards AFB in the instrument repair department.

Mom once told me a professional wrestler, known as 'The Terrible Turk', lived across the street and she said he was a very sweet man. I remember him, he was bald with a thin Fu Manchu mustache. He always waved when we would see him on his front porch. Mom would stand out on the balcony and whistle for us kids to come in for dinner. I still remember that whistle.

That may be Sonny and Dorothy out front. This photo was taken around 1938... Dorothy would have been about six. She was born in 1932.

Back then the ice-man would deliver blocks of ice for those old wooden ice boxes still in some homes. We would run and grab the little chunks of ice knocked off when the ice-man grabbed a block with the metal tongs, and sling the ice over his shoulder. He wore this rubber coat to keep him dry.

There was a three or four car garage behind the house. One time when Aunt Betty and Marie were in one of the stalls doing what I don't know, but George and Andy were in another stall... they were separated by a wall. George and Andy dropped a fake spider, which was on a fishing pole line, over the top of the wall and onto the table the Marie and Betty were sitting at... you can imagine what happened next. LOL.

Another incident on Rangely: I was standing on a low wall when a little girl went by with her baby buggy. I wanted a ride so I jumped in… went right through the bottom of the buggy.

One night mom and dad decided to go out. They asked aunt Dorothy to babysit. I'm not sure how old Valerie and I were, but we decided to unroll all the toilet paper. Dorthy came into our room and... again, you can only imagine...

The photographs below are of what the property looks like now. Apparently separated into 4 apartments. 8920, 8920½, 8922 and 8922½.
