Four years in the navy and I was only on board a ship once. After tech school in Millington TN, about a 20 mile drive NNE from memphis, I was ordered to San Francisco to catch the General J.C Brekinridge, a troup transport, to take me to my new duty station, AEWBARRONPAC, based in Barber's Point, on the island of Oahu. It took a week to get to Pearl Harbor.

Barber's Point was due west of Pearl and Waikiki, about a 25 drive.
