Belle, George and Hezekiah, George's Grandparents. They raised him.
At what age he was sent to them, I'm not sure. As the story goes, when he was about 11 or 12, Mae, George, Sally and Clyde Jr. all lived in the rectory of the local church with a priest. This story is told elsewhere on this site. The leaders of the congregation didn't like the fact that they had to support them so they were asked to leave. Mae didn't make enough money to support three kids so she sent George, the oldest, off to live with Belle and Hezekiah. George looks to be about 20 twenty. Once again I'm not sure about the time. Was this in PA or had they already moved to CA... because George married Marie when he was 21.
